Madewell 1937 Opens Shop at Century City

August 31, 2006 at 3:02 PM EDT

NEW YORK, Aug. 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- J.Crew Group Inc. (NYSE:JCG) opens its second Madewell shop on Monday September 4, 2006 at Century City in Los Angeles, California. Inspired by the New Bedford, Massachusetts workwear company founded in 1937, Madewell is a collection of real, honest women's clothes that speak for themselves: not too trendy, not too girly, just cool clothes infused with a modern upbeat attitude. It's an edgy take on casual with a few vintage details and a modern twist.

Millard Drexler, J. Crew Group Chairman and CEO, who acquired the Madewell name just before joining J. Crew in 2003, says, "Madewell started as a fun, stimulating idea that has grown into an assortment of great clothes that look good now and will look good in five years. At the end of the day, it's about great style, design, product and attitude."

The line features coveted pieces such as the perfect tee shirt, sexy chinos, and washed "boyfriend" shirts you can belt over jeans. Madewell gives special attention to details and washes with the intention that you don't have to wash anything five times to make it feel soft and worn because its already been done for you. The assortment of tees, jeans, fleece, shirts and accessories will cater to the hip twenty and thirty somethings looking for those "works with everything" items.

Madewell has also created exclusive partnerships with a hand-selected group of designers including Philip Crangi, a New York City jewelry designer, and Havaianas, the famous Brazilian flip flop created in 1962.

There are two Madewell shops opening this fall: the first in NorthPark, Dallas on August 22nd, and the second in Century City, Los Angeles on September 4th. A third location will be announced later in the year. Madewell1937.com will launch at the end of August with an assortment of looks available for purchase through an 800 number.
